With proven hydraulic braking technology, the new Shimano 105 calipers feature the Shimano Flat Mount System and its low-profile design that is ideal for road bikes. More compact and lighter than ever, the R7170 brakes offer wide pad clearance for easy wheel removal and quiet performance as well as one-way bleeding for easy, clean maintenance.

Ice Technologies
Shimano Ice Technologies components deliver more consistent braking performance by reducing heat buildup in the system. This helps prevent brake fade, which can happen when a rider applies the brakes repeatedly and strongly over a short period of time, such as when descending a long, steep hill.
Shimano has adopted Ice Technologies disc brake rotor and Ice Technologies pad to realize the cooling technology for consistent performance. The clad disc brake rotor blade, which has a 3 layer-sandwich structure of stainless steel, aluminium and stainless steel, provides better radiation performance. Also, the radiation fin has been adopted for the pad. Moreover, the clad disc brake rotor blade and the radiator fin provide long pad life, less noise, less fade and lightweight.
Available in resin or metal compound, the optional radiation fin pad with a 2-layer back plate (aluminum fin with stainless steel) further improves radiation performance.
One Way Bleeding
“One Way Bleeding” was developed for quick and easy prevention of air in our hydraulic system. We have streamlined the oil route throughout the system to prevent air bubbles from being captured in the system. One way oil routing plus a funnel tool with mineral oil provides an easy and clean bleeding system.
