The POC Joint Long knee pads give good coverage above and below the knee to save you from pedal scrapes and whipping branches, but the main source of protection is the tough VPD 2.0 layer in the cap. Malleable when relaxed for good maneuverability, but when subject to heavy impacts it stiffens up and distributes the force through the pad and away from your anatomy. The VPD 2.0 offers more substantial protection than the VPD Air pads - better for the rigors of downhill and freeriding where you're likely to get sideways and there's unholy rock gardens waiting round every corner.
