They say great things come in small packages, and we’ve got the proof right here. First of all, the new HERO camera weighs just 86 grams but captures at an incredible 4K resolution. Making it 4K’ing: tiny, rugged, versatile, and super simple to use. And did we mention it’s also 4K’ing affordable, too? It comes in at just £199, but you’ll be absolutely amazed by what it can do and the high-quality videos you can create. So, here’s everything you need to know about this short king. At 56.6mm wide, by 47.7mm tall, and 29.4mm deep, HERO comes in at roughly 35% less volume and 46% less mass than our flagship HERO13 Black. That adds up to a camera you can barely feel when you’re wearing it, holding it or storing it in your pocket. Despite the tiny stature, you still get a full-color touchscreen on the back for framing your shots and reviewing your footage.

Features

The camera has low-profile built-in mounting fingers on the bottom, which makes it compatible with the massive array of GoPro mounts sold everywhere to setup hands-free capture. It’s waterproof to 16 feet (5 meters) deep, and its built-in battery is equipped with our Enduro Battery technology, which means it’ll keep on rolling even in extreme cold. It also features a replaceable Gorilla Glass lens, so if yours ever gets a scratch you can quickly swap it out while your camera lives on to fight another day.

This is our easiest-to-use camera ever with three modes that you simply swipe (or tap the mode button) to switch between. Making it easy to get the shot, whether your cruising through a new town, sprinting to the ocean or chasing your little ones down a hill (rain, snow or shine)!

Here are the three modes you need to know about and what to use them for.

  • Video Mode: The default video mode is a stunning 4K30, perfect for playback on a 70” 4K TV with sharp details and vivid colors. This mode is ideal for capturing day-to-day moments, landscapes, travel videos, vlogging, and anything you want to look cinematic.
  • Slo-Mo Mode: Great for capturing fast-moving action, this mode changes the resolution to 2.7K and doubles the frame rate to 60 fps, allowing you to slow footage by 50% in the Quick app for smooth slow motion and amazing detail.
  • Photo Mode: Capture stills with 12MP resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio for a more immersive POV-friendly feel and a wider frame.

HERO captures immersive 16:9 video with a 165-degree wide field of view with stunning image quality, whether you’re shooting for travel or action. Once you transfer your videos over to the GoPro Quik app, GoPro’s Emmy Award-Winning HyperSmooth stabilization technology will be applied to every clip to eliminate bumps and shakes. So you’re left with stunningly smooth memories to rewatch, combine into video edits and share straight to social media, all from Quik.

HERO is also designed to keep up with a day-to-night, on-the-go travel lifestyle. Which is why the built-in Enduro Battery technology offers recording times of over an hour when shooting in 4K.

PRO TIP: Battery Saver can be turned on to extend the built-in Enduro battery’s runtime. Swipe down on the rear display to reveal the camera dashboard and select the battery icon to access Battery Saver. This will change Video Mode to 1080p30 and Slo-Mo Mode to 1080p60, both still HD-level video quality. This will increase the runtime on a single charge to around 155 minutes on a single charge.

You can also enable voice controls covering 8 commands, 11 languages and 6 accents. Say things like: “GoPro take a photo” or “GoPro start recording” and let the camera do the rest! Plus, staying true to all recent GoPro cameras, HERO is WiFi-enables, so when you connect to the GoPro Quik App, you can transfer footage, control your camera with your phone and even upload your videos straight to the cloud for safe keeping and easy sharing with a GoPro subscription, which includes unlimited storage for your GoPro footage.
