Fox Racing Shox, as it is officially branded, began as a motocross suspension component business in the mid 70's and has since flourished into a pioneer of premium suspension systems for mountain bikes, motorcycles, ATVs, trucks and even snowmobiles. Their research and development is continuous to ensure you get the ride of your life.
The Downhill Racer’s Edge
Features
Target locked on the top step of the podium and developed in the crucible of World Cup competition, the 40 is the definitive DH race fork. The GRIP X2 damper now offers more tunability and traction than ever before, ensuring the 40 stays planted in the hot seat.
- Arch design increases head tube clearance, allowing for reduced rake.
- Lower leg bleeders.
- Air/oil channels.
- Increase in performance and tunability, zero increase in weight.
- 31% stiffer transverse shear, 9% stiffer fore/aft and 20% torsionally stiffer than 36.
- New GRIP X2 damper with dual VVC (Variable Valve Control) on HSC and HSR options.
- Matching 8-click HSC and HSR adjustment.
- Updated EVOL air spring.
Technology
Grip X2
To create the ultimate descent-focused damper, we sought the level of tunability seen in motocross and supercross racing suspension. Our award-winning Grip 2 damper had a 20 mm base valve diameter and seven valves. Grip X2 scaled up the tunability by increasing the base valve diameter to 24 mm with 23 valves. The result is the most tunable, supportive, and smoothest descent-focused fork damper ever created by FOX.
Floating Axle
The 40’s floating thru axle allows perfect chassis alignment and reduces unwanted friction between the upper and lower fork legs, providing much smoother suspension movement throughout the entire range of travel.
Lower Leg Bleeders & Bypass Channels
Bleeders allow atmospheric pressure equalization at the push of a button. Lower leg bypass channels increase volume to alleviate pressure ramping as the fork moves through its travel. Both result in better fork performance by increasing small bump sensitivity and responsiveness.
Lower Leg Arch
The lower leg design of the 36 E-Optimized shaves every possible gram while maximizing stiffness and strength requirements of enduro and aggressive all-mountain riding.
Riders reap the benefits of sitting higher in the travel while tyres stay glued to the ground. They can corner with increased traction, giving them the confidence to push the limits of downhill and enduro racing, all while reducing overall rider fatigue.

- Grip X2 is the winning difference.
- 23 Count Valve Stack for unprecedented tunability and quicker response to bumps.
- Our award-winning Grip 2 damper had a 20 mm base valve diameter and seven valves. Grip X2 scaled up the tunability by increasing the base valve diameter to 24mm with 23 valves.
- 24mm Base Valve lowers pressure to increase sensitivity and allows space for more damping circuitry.
- Pressure Balancing maintains low positive pressure, allowing 5-10ms damper response time to rider inputs.
- 4-Way Adjustability with high/low-speed compression and high / low-speed rebound, now with less cross talk.
